Submerged arc welding wire
Submerged Arc Welding wire also called SAW wire vary from 1.2mm ('thin' wire or twin wire submerged arc) to 6.4mm in diameter and are capable of carrying welding currents ranging from 150 to 1600amps. The wires for ferritic steels are generally copper coated to increase contact tip life, improve electrical conductivity and extend the shelf life.
The welding wire is generally of a composition that matches that of the parent metal and wires are available for the welding of carbon and low and high alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel and copper/nickel alloys. In addition, submerged arc welding may be used for surfacing with corrosion or wear resistant coatings using both wires and flat strips. The wires may be solid or metal cored. Strips may be rolled or sintered.

Submerged Arc AWS A5.9: ER2209 is a duplex stainless steel submerged arc welding wire suitable for welding duplex stainless steels grades 2205 and 2304. Weld metal exhibits corrosion resistance similar to grade 904L in most applications. Submerged Arc AWS A5.9: ER2209 is also suitable to weld grade 2205 or grade 2304 to mild steel.
AWS A5.9: ER2594 has been developed for welding Super-duplex stainless steels 2507 and other super-duplex stainless steels. The wire has excellent resistance to stress corrosion (SCC) in chloride-bearing environments and excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
AWS A5.14: ERNiCrMo-4 welding wire has been developed for welding INCONEL alloy C-276 and other nickel-chromium molybdenum alloys, cladding steel, welding carbon steel to nickel base alloys and stainless steels to nickel alloys.
Wire electrode for submerged arc welding intended for weldingwork-hardenable steels, armor steel and austenitic stainless manganese steels. Also suitable for joining stainless chromium steels with chromium content up to 18% and overlay welding of mild steels and low-alloy steels.
AWS A5.9: ER308H is a submerged arc welding wire intended for welding 18% Cr – 10% Ni austenitic stainless steels for service temperature up to +700°C, base material 1.4948/AISI 30H.
AWS A5.9: ER308L is a submerged arc welding wire intended for welding 18% Cr – 10% Ni austenitic stainless steels 1.4306 type 304, 304L. Suitable for service temperature from -196 °C to +350 °C.
